This is a picture of the cottage before the garden was set out.The cottage had been purchased by the customer to be used as a holiday home for friends and family so the garden had to be easy to look after but provide colour and structure and areas to sit and relax.
I had work for the client before on several occasions but when they asked me to look at the cottage I could not see that it would be a cost effective project for then due to the travelling from Maidenhead to Broadwell everyday. Until I was invited to stay at the cottage to work if I like and it would work for me.
What a beautiful place to work .
The above image was draw up and the work began the old grass was removed to reveal that the lawn had been planted on cotswold gravel which had been put down to provide a drive for the property several years ago.
The next thing to be found was the oil pipe to the house which ran across the end of the garden by the new garage and up the length of the garden to the front door.
A paving slab which was locally produced was chosen by the client and layout and setdown then pointed.Plants and more plants were chosen them we found the old or new soakaway drainage systems. The planting was adapted to allow for this and new drain covers fitted to replace the old ones which had be buried under the old lawn.
A drain cover was also found just out side the front door which was rebuilt and had a new cover fitted to allow access if required.
All done.....No !
Sometime later after around about a year or so I was asked to go back as a problem had occurred with the paving that I had laid.
The surface had broken down and was being trodden through the white carpets in the house I was horribly embarrassed but was told it was not my fault as they had chosen to not use a stone slab as I had originally planned but to used the concrete paving in its place .
All work due one more happy customer.
